Adventurer: one who seeks his fortune in new and hazardous or perilous enterprises.*

John Smith was certainly an adventurer! He was an explorer, soldier of fortune, and writer who wrote the first English book published about America, entitled A True Relation. He is probably best remembered as the folk hero rescued by Pocahontas, a questionable story that has endured almost as a myth. However, his contributions to American history and literature are invaluable.
In Brief
Chief Powhatan lectured John Smith about peace. Listen here for this speech.
