Welcome to Geometry! In this course, you will explore the world through the eyes of an architect. The word architecture means the art and discipline of creating an object. While the word refers most often to the creation of buildings, it is also used in reference to:

  • Music
  • Mathematics
  • Geological Formations
  • Structures of Biological Cells
  • Software
  • Computers
  • Enterprises
  • Databases
  • Town Planning
  • Urban Design
  • Landscaping

We will look at many real-life examples of geometry at work in the world around us.

  • Did you know that coordinate geometry is used in creating and using the maps that guide you on your vacation travels?
  • Did you know that engineers use their knowledge of angles to bank highways?
  • Did you know that architects use triangles to provide strength and reinforcement in their designs?
  • Did you know that Renaissance artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, and Raphael Sanzio of Urbino used geometry to help them portray spatial relationships as if you were looking at a scene from a window?

Throughout this course, you will be traveling a mathematical highway illuminated by spatial relationships, reasoning, connections, and problem solving. We hope you will find this geometry course exciting, fun, and powerful. We wish you well on your journey; the thrill of experimentation and discovery awaits!
